Simple. Simple. Simple.
These are the words I keep repeating to myself. Keep the website simple. Keep it as minimalistic as possible and as intuitive as possible with as little visual clutter as possible.
This is how I arrived at the decision to use a video link as the way to play the star scroll, instead of using the Open Processing site I'd created as an option to embed in the website.
The idea with using the code I'd created was to optimize for constant originality. The particle system I created was self generative, and no two refreshes would create the same star system.
The Achilles heel in this plan, however was that it built in a user interface that would be unfamiliar to most users.
Most users won't intuitively click on the unmute button at the top of this page:
There is also a lack of elegance in this page versus this landing page:
Everyone knows what to do when they see a play button. Hit play.
The website also features an about page, a suggestion to describe how this idea was conceptualized, outside of the blog (that you are currently on).
Hopefully the website feels intuitive and simple. As if it was the most natural layout that doesn't need anymore than it has, and doesn't have anymore than it needs.
